RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY
The student demonstrates an ability to use technology in support of his or her scholarly work and research projects; including gathering, organizing, and analyzing sources and employing appropriate delivery techniques in both written and oral formats.
6.1 Students gain knowledge of appropriate research methodologies and are able to apply them in their studies.
6.2 Students use appropriate technology in research studies relative to Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures.
6.3 Students collect, manage, and analyze current and emerging technology-based resources to develop and produce their scholarly work.
Reflective Narrative
Under this MLO, I have completed the following courses: SPAN 300: Pre-Capstone for Spanish Majors (Fall 2021), WLC 300: WLC Major ProSeminar (Fall 2011), and WLC 400: Major Capstone (Spring 2022).
One of the most important elements in an academic environment is the ability to utilize technology to support scholarly work and research. In the Spanish major, I was able to become proficient in the use of technology during the research over the completion of multiple courses. Furthermore, during the transition to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, technology was utilized more heavily to submit and complete assignments.
One of the pieces of evidence will be the completion of this E-Portfolio which exhibits my academic and personal experiences throughout my progression here at CSUMB as a Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures major. As for my research, I collaborated with Hilda Andrade and our advisor Dr. David Vila Diéguez to complete our Capstone project, “The Portrayal of Indigenous Women in the Chronicles of Bartolomé de Las Casas and Bernal Díaz del Castillo,” which was presented at the 2022 WLC Capstone Festival. Both of these examples illustrate my success in completing this MLO and have contributed to my use of the appropriate technological tools in research studies.
One of the most significant challenges that I encountered during the courses was the research process because of the complexity of finding credible secondary sources to support my research. At first, it was difficult trying to find current articles regarding the subject of indigenous women in colonial times because of their lack of appearance across colonial literature. However, I was able to overcome the challenge by further researching articles and looking into additional bibliographies. Having access to multiple online sources and organizational tools contributed to successfully finding credible sources to utilize in my research. I would like to give thanks to the professors and librarians at CSUMB who have significantly helped me successfully complete all of my research projects. One aspect I do need to improve in is completing a synthesis table prior to my research so it will be easier to organize recurring themes throughout research and searching for literature.
Assignments
