Welcome to my graduation portfolio!
¡Bienvenides a mi e-Portafolio!
My name is Carolina Patricia Arguijo and this portfolio is to demonstrate the work I have completed at Cal State University, Monterey Bay in order to obtain my BA in Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture with a minor in Psychology. My portfolio will demonstrate my experiences and major learning outcomes I have achieved in my academic career here at CSUMB. On this page you can find my personal statement, my resume, and my individual learning plan that displays the courses I have taken in order to obtain my BA here at CSUMB
Personal Statement:
I was raised in a bilingual household, but do not consider myself a heritage speaker because English was primarily used at home. Despite English being my dominant language, I have always had a love for the Spanish language. Hence, I started my academic career at Cal State University, Monterey Bay as a World Languages and Cultures major in 2010. Since then, the major has evolved to Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures. Throughout the years, I found myself struggling with my mental health while also balancing school and work to maintain my livelihood. Over the span of 12 years, I have left and returned to CSUMB multiple times. Throughout the process of learning to cope with anxiety, depression, and grief, I became more interested in learning about medical processes and mental health coping methods. My love for the Spanish language never ceased, which is why I decided to incorporate all my interests together. Hence, I declared a minor in Psychology which will assist me in applying to a MSN (Master of Nursing) program. This degree program in Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures has helped me understand the significance of Hispanic language and cultures, which will ultimately aid me in assisting the Latinx community in my future career goals.
After graduation, I would like to work with impacted communities that do not have sufficient resources for proper physical and psychological care. I have had the opportunity to grow in a diverse community while living and working. I would like to share my knowledge with others so they may also find the courage to share their stories and experiences. Ideally, I would love for all people to continue to thrive and grow together. I am applying what I have learned from daily experiences of Latinx narratives and manifesting the change I would like to see for future generations. Understanding and empathizing with all people I encounter inspires me to be the change I want to see and assist in any way I can. I do not have an exact end career goal, but I know the adventure is in the journey. For now, I will continue exploring my academic career and intertwining Spanish with Nursing and Psychology. These experiences and passions make me unique and will allow me to go forth and make great positive contributions to this world. That is something that my education has enabled me to do and I am forever grateful for the privilege it was to attend a higher educational institute such as Cal State University, Monterey Bay.
